Leading Professional Services Firm
Professional Services Firm Achieves Rapid Global Deployment: 50% Faster with Modern Architecture Transformation
A leading professional services firm needed to modernize a document-sharing portal used by engagement teams globally across 149 territories. Any minor code change triggered a full regression cycle, slowing releases and preventing other internal apps from reusing functionality. Allata rebuilt the solution, powered by microservices and micro-frontends (MFEs). The new architecture cuts build time in half for slight changes, enables rapid, component-level deployments, and lets specialized internal applications plug features into their own products through simple configuration.

OVERVIEW
Faster Deployments, Enhanced Client Experiences, and Reduced Technical Debt
The re-platform delivered transformational results that fundamentally changed how the firm operates and serves clients. The organization now deploys targeted updates in hours rather than days, dramatically reducing time-to-market while eliminating the risk of firm-wide regressions that previously plagued monolithic releases.
Global engagement teams gained unprecedented flexibility through a modern portal that enables rapid assembly of custom client experiences, while the underlying micro-frontend architecture achieved:
- 50 % reduction in build time for minor releases
- Reusable MFEs accelerate feature delivery across multiple internal applications
The reusable MFE components now accelerate feature delivery across multiple internal applications, reducing duplicate development efforts and fostering greater collaboration between teams. From an infrastructure perspective, IT realizes significant cost savings through reduced cloud spend and has established a clear pathway to decommission legacy systems, creating a more sustainable and efficient technology foundation for the firm’s continued growth.
THE CHALLENGE
Global Release Management. Rising Costs and Slow Innovation Adoption
The firm’s legacy application operated as a Node.js/Angular monolith that severely constrained operational agility and innovation. Every modification, regardless of scope, triggered a costly three-step process: complete code rebuilds, comprehensive end-to-end regression testing, and coordinated big-bang deployments across 149 global territories. Monolith blocking agility. Node.js/Angular monolith bundled with every feature into a single deployment. Even a text edit required:
- Full code rebuilds
- End-to-end regression testing
- Coordinated, big-bang release globally
The architecture also locked valuable components of file sharing, permissions, audit trails inside the application, forcing other teams to re-code similar features or forgo them entirely. Other internal teams were forced to either duplicate these capabilities from scratch or abandon them entirely, as there was no practical mechanism to embed features into specialized applications.
The resulting inefficiencies manifested as high-risk release cycles, limited reusability, and escalating cloud and support costs tied to the inflexible legacy infrastructure.
- Slow, high-risk releases hindered enhancements for engagement teams
- No practical way to embed capabilities in specialized firm apps
- Rising cloud and support costs tied to legacy services

OUR SOLUTION
Canvas Platform Orchestrates 50+ Independent MFEs for Flexible Deployment
A dedicated MFE host platform governs authentication, routing, and MFE registration. Each legacy feature was decomposed into discrete React or Angular MFEs, backed by .NET microservices running on Azure Kubernetes Service. A new “sites” capability lets power users assemble bespoke client pages by selecting the MFEs they need.
- Created 50+ MFEs that can be updated and deployed independently
- Introduced component-level pipelines in Azure DevOps—only changed code is built and released
- Added “sites” builder so engagement teams craft client-specific experiences without writing code
- Contributed to and now support the MFE host platform governing MFE lifecycle and governance
This modular approach enables component-level CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps, ensuring only modified code gets built and deployed, dramatically reducing release cycles. The innovative “sites” capability empowers engagement teams to create tailored client experiences by selecting and combining relevant MFEs without requiring development resources, while the Canvas platform provides enterprise-grade governance and lifecycle management for the entire micro-frontend ecosystem.
THE RESULT
Unlocked Global Agility and Minutes-to-Market Client Portals
The firm can now adjust a single page element, trigger its pipeline, and move to production without touching the rest of the portal—cutting build time in half and eliminating full-site regressions. Other internal applications simply configure and consume MFEs, accelerating their own roadmaps while reducing duplicate development effort.
- 50 % faster build and deployment cycles for slight changes
- Targeted QA on affected MFEs only—no more all-hands regression testing
- Legacy infrastructure decommissioned; cloud spend lowered (exact savings confidential)
- Engagement teams across 149 territories deliver tailored client portals in minutes
